Suspensions

Suspensions

Before Compass Freeze (until 6 November)

  • The applying and lifting of suspensions can be recorded on Compass until 6 November

During Compass Freeze (from 7 November)

Applying Suspensions

  • Suspensions must continue to be applied as normal, however, instead of submitting them through Compass, they must be submitted through this online form [Link to be added on 1 Nov].
  • The online form should be filled in jointly by the requesting Lead Volunteer (Commissioner) and the authorising Lead Volunteer (Commissioner).
  • Once submitted, UKHQ will notify the suspending Lead Volunteer within 24 hours if anyone else needs to be informed of the suspension, which should be carried out as normal.
  • The rest of the suspension process applies as normal.

Lifting suspensions

  • Suspensions for non-compliance can’t be lifted while Compass is offline, as it is not possible to record the completed training or criminal record check against a volunteer’s record.
  • Other suspensions should continue to be lifted as normal, however, instead of lifting these via Compass they must be lifted using this online form [Link to be added on 1 Nov].
  • The rest of the process for lifting suspensions applies as normal.

From Go-Live (From 21 November for Early Adopters and from 28 November for everyone else)

  • Any suspensions applied or lifted while Compass is offline will be recorded on the new system by the UKHQ Safeguarding Team in the two weeks after Go-Live.
  • The suspension process through the new digital system must be used.

Additional information relating to specific types of suspension:

Suspensions relating to learning

  • Learning cannot be recorded while Compass is offline.
  • For suspensions relating to Safety or Safeguarding learning completion, please read the learning interim processes for further details.

Suspensions relating to criminal record checks

  • If a volunteer’s criminal record check expires while Compass is offline, they will be considered as non-compliant from the date of expiry (as usual) and should be suspended.
  • Suspensions for expired criminal record checks can’t be lifted while Compass is offline, unless otherwise notified by the UKHQ Safeguarding Team.

HQ Suspensions

  • If a suspension is applied or lifted by UKHQ while Compass is offline, the UKHQ Safeguarding Team will contact the volunteer by phone and follow this up in writing as usual.
  • The UKHQ Safeguarding Team will also notify the relevant Lead Volunteer(s) by phone/email as usual.
