Tasks for all volunteers

Enrol in a new learning 

Start by signing in to scouts.org.uk. 

On your welcome page: 

  1. Click ‘Start learning’. 

On the ‘My overview’ page: 

  1. Click the learning course you want to complete. 

On the training course page: 

  1. Click ‘Enrol’. If there isn’t an enrol button, click the ‘Available courses’ tab, then click ‘Enrol’. 

On the course enrolment pop-up: 

  1. Click ‘Enrol’. 

On the training course page, under start learning: 

  1. Click one of the chunks to start learning.  


Cancel a learning course

Start by signing in to scouts.org.uk. 

On your welcome page: 

  1. Click ‘Start learning’. 

On the ‘My overview’ page: 

  1. Click the learning course you want to cancel. 

On the training course page: 

  1. Click ‘Cancel course’. 

On the course cancellation pop-up: 

  1. Select a reason for cancellation from the dropdown menu.  

  1. Type your notes into the box.  

  1. Click ‘Cancel course’.  


Search learning and skills courses 

Start by signing in to scouts.org.uk. 

On your welcome page: 

  1. Click ‘Start learning’. 

On the ‘My overview’ page (if you’re using a phone, click the menu button on the top right): 

  1. Click ‘Explore the learning’.  

On the ‘Explore the learning’ page: 

  1. Type a learning or skill into the search box and click ‘Search’. 


Assign a skill to my profile

Start by signing in to scouts.org.uk. 

On your welcome page: 

  1. Click ‘Start learning’. 

On the ‘My overview’ page (if you’re using a phone, click the menu button on the top right): 

  1. Click ‘Wood Badges and skills’.  

On the ‘My competencies’ page: 

  1. Click the ‘Skills’ tab. 

  1. Click the ‘+’ (plus) button.  

On the ‘Skill assignment’ page: 

  1. Click the ‘+’ (plus) button for the skill(s) you want to assign.  

  1. Click the ‘Assign skills’ button at the bottom of the page.  

A message will appear at the top of the page confirming you've successfully assigned the skills to your profile. 

 

Assign a Wood Badge to my profile

Request to be assessed in a skill

Start by signing in to scouts.org.uk. 

On your welcome page: 

  1. Click ‘Start learning’. 

On the ‘My overview’ page (if you’re using a phone, click the menu button on the top right): 

  1. Click ‘Wood Badges and skills’.  

On the ‘My competencies’ page: 

  1. Click the ‘Wood Badges’ or ‘Skills’ tab. 

If you clicked the ‘Wood Badges’ tab, click the down arrow to see the skills for your Wood Badge.  

  1. Click ‘Assessment’ on the skill you want to be assessed. 

On the ‘Assessment’ page, under ‘Comments and attachments’: 

  1. Type your comments into the text box. 

  1. Click ‘Upload’, select a file and click ‘Open’.  

  1. Click ‘Request confirmation’.  

A message will appear at the top of the page confirming you've successfully saved the assessment. 

 

Check my learning status

Start by signing in to scouts.org.uk. 

On your welcome page: 

  1. Click ‘Start learning’. 

On the ‘My overview’ page (if you’re using a phone, click the menu button on the top right): 

  1. Click ‘My progress’.  

On the ‘Learning status page’ page: 

  1. Click the ‘Current’, ‘Recommended’, ‘Completed’, ‘Cancelled’ or ‘All’ tab. 

You'll see the status ‘In progress’, ‘Recommended’, ‘Passed’ or ‘Cancelled’ under each learning course.  

 

Check my learning expiry date

Start by signing in to scouts.org.uk. 

On your welcome page: 

  1. Click ‘Manage membership’. 

On the left-hand side menu (if you’re using a phone, click the menu button on the top right): 

  1. Click ‘Learning’. 

On the ‘Learning’ page: 

  1. Check the Expiry date column. 

Please be mindful that you can only see the expiry dates for your completed Growing Roots and First Response learning.

 

Tasks for Lead Volunteers, Team Leaders and Learning Assessors

Check my team’s learning

Start by signing in to scouts.org.uk. 

On your welcome page: 

  1. Click ‘Start learning’. 

On the ‘My overview’ page: 

  1. Click the 'switch roles’ button on the tope right.  

  1. Click ‘Manage’ (if you’re a Team Leader or a Lead Volunteer) or ‘Assess’ (if you’re a Learning Assessor). 

On the ‘Overview’ page (if you’re using a phone, click the menu button on the top left): 

  1. Click ‘My volunteers’. 

On the ‘My staff’ page: 

  1. Click the name of the volunteer.  

  1. Click the ‘Wood Badges’ or ‘Skills’ tab.   

If you clicked the ‘Wood Badges’ tab, click the down arrow to see the skills for the Wood Badge. 

 

Create a learning report

Start by signing in to scouts.org.uk. 

On your welcome page: 

  1. Click ‘Start learning’. 

  1. Click ‘Manage’ (if you’re a Team Leader or a Lead Volunteer) or ‘Assess’ (if you’re a Learning Assessor). 

On the ‘Overview’ page (if you’re using a phone, click the menu button on the top left): 

  1. XXXXXXXXXXXXXX 

 

Tasks for Learning Assessors

Assign a skill to a volunteer’s profile

Start by signing in to scouts.org.uk. 

On your welcome page: 

  1. Click ‘Start learning’. 

On the ‘My overview’ page: 

  1. Click the 'switch roles’ button on the tope right.  

  1. Click ‘Assess’. 

On the ‘Learning Assessor Overview’ page (if you’re using a phone, click the menu button on the top left): 

  1. Click ‘My volunteers’. 

On the ‘My staff’ page: 

  1. Click the name of the volunteer. 

  1. Click the ‘Skills’ tab. 

  1. Click the ‘+’ (plus) button.  

On the ‘Skill assignment’ page: 

  1. Click the ‘+’ (plus) button for the skill(s) you want to assign.  

  1. Click the ‘Assign skills’ button at the bottom of the page.  

A message will appear at the top of the page confirming you've successfully assigned the skills to the profile.

 

Credit a skill

Start by signing in to scouts.org.uk. 

On your welcome page: 

  1. Click ‘Start learning’. 

On the ‘My overview’ page: 

  1. Click the 'switch roles’ button on the tope right.  

  1. Click ‘Assess’. 

On the ‘Learning Assessor Overview’ page (if you’re using a phone, click the menu button on the top left): 

  1. Click ‘My volunteers’. 

On the ‘My staff’ page: 

  1. Click the name of the volunteer. 

  1. Click the ‘Skills’ tab. 

  1. Click ‘Assessment’ on the skill you want to assess. 

On the ‘Assessment’ page: 

  1. Select the ‘Expiration mode’ from the dropdown menu. 

If you’ve selected ‘By date’, type a date into the ‘Expiry date’ box. 

  1. Type your comments into the text box. 

  1. Click ‘Upload’, select a file and click ‘Open’.  

  1. Click ‘Confirm assessment’.  

A message will appear at the top of the page confirming you've successfully saved the assessment.
