UK Explorer Belt Expedition
An Explorer Belt is one of the highest awards in Scouting. It is also probably one of the most exciting adventures that Scouting can offer, and something that will change your life (for the better)!
Quick links
In brief, it is a ten-day expedition that brings you a real understanding of a different country, its culture and way of life. You will develop this understanding by travelling through your chosen country, working as part of a small team, completing a series of projects and most importantly by meeting and engaging with local people.
Here is your chance to be part of the adventure. You and your team will be part of a UK Explorer Belt Expedition exploring Denmark in the summer of 2025.
The trip will take place on 5 to 19 July 2025, allowing you some acclimatising time before and free time after your actual expedition. You and your team will be involved in planning and preparing your own expedition.
Who can take part
You will need to be a member of Network and aged 18 to 24 in July 2025. We will help you to form teams of three or more Network members from across the UK, but ideally within your own region to make it easier for you to get together to prepare and plan your expedition.
You can therefore apply either as an individual or alongside existing friends. Whilst there may be a selection process, all that you will need is an appetite for adventure and the commitment to complete one of the highest awards in Scouting.
Where will you explore?
Because of the limited time available and to make this opportunity more accessible to as many Network members as possible, the entire UK expedition will travel to Denmark.
When will you explore?
The dates are 5 to 19 July 2025.
What support can you expect?
Your team will be allocated an experienced Mentor who will provide you with guidance, advice and support throughout your planning and preparations.
We will also provide a series of workshops, some of which will be physical and others online. Your team will also organise your own “Mini Explorer Belt” over three days here in the UK as part of your preparation, team building and personal development.
There will then be a dedicated and experienced Supervisory team with you during your expedition.
What will it cost?
The indicative cost is £900 which includes the workshops, in country supervision and the actual expedition costs.
Travel to and from Denmark, travel insurance and the costs of your Mini Explorer Belt will not be included in this cost, because these will depend upon your own plans and will therefore be on a Pay As You Go basis.
How do I apply and find out more?
To apply as a participant on this Explorer Belt expedition, please complete the online application form by 31st October 2024. We will then contact you with more information.
