Here are some things that you’ll need for your DofE expedition. This list is a guide to the items you may need, so remember to check with your volunteers if there is anything else you may need.

- 1 pair of walking boots (broken in)
- 2 pairs of walking socks
- 2 pairs of sock liners (optional)
- Waterproof and windproof jacket/coat
- Waterproof overtrousers
- 2 fleece tops or similar
- 2-3 t-shirts (thermal optional)
- 1 pair of shorts (if appropriate)
- 2 pairs of walking trousers (not jeans)
- Underwear
- Nightwear
- Flipflops/sandals (optional for campsite use)
- Warm hat and/or sun hat (as appropriate)
- 1 pair of gloves (if appropriate)
- 1 pair gaiters (optional)
- Rucksack
- Rucksack liner (or 2 strong plastic bags)
- Sleeping bag
- Sleeping mat
- Waterproof bag
- Sleeping bag liner (optional)
- Whistle
- Torch (handheld or head torch and spare batteries)
- Personal and first aid kit
- Food (including emergency rations)
- Water bottle
- Unbreakable cutlery, plate and bowl and mug
- Box of matches in waterproof container
- Wash kit and personal hygiene items (some items could be shared as a group)
- Sunblock
- Towel
- Small quantity of money (optional)
- Notebook and pen/pencil
- Watch
- Tent(s)
- Camping stove(s)
- Camping stove fuel (in an appropriate and safe container)
- Cooking pans
- Scourers
- Tin opener (if required)
- Tea towels and washing up liquid
- Plastic bags (for rubbish or damp clothing and so on)
- Toilet paper or trowel
- Maps (1:25 000/1:50 000)
