The Scout Promise

The Promise is a simple way to help young people and adults celebrate their shared Scout values. Every Scout promises to stick by these values when they become a member.
There are four versions of the Promise appropriate to different age groups. There is a Promise for:
- Squirrels,
- Beavers,
- Cubs,
- Scouts, Explorers, Network and adults.
Scouts is open to people of all faiths and of none. We have different variations of our Promise, so everyone can make a Promise that means something to them, no matter their background or belief.
The Scout Promise
The Squirrel Scout Promise for members who are atheist or of no faith background
I promise to do my best to be kind and helpful and to love our world.
The Squirrel Scout Promise for members who are Buddhist
I promise to do my best to be kind and helpful and to act with love towards everyone.
The Squirrel Scout Promise for members who are Christian
I promise to do my best to be kind and helpful and to love God.
The Squirrel Scout Promise for members who are Hindu
I promise to do my best to be kind and helpful and to love the world.

I promise to do my best to be kind and helpful and to love our world.

to seek refuge in the Triple Gem, to do my duty to The King,
to act with compassion towards all life
and to keep the Cub Scout Law.
The Cub Scout Promise for members who are Christian
I promise that I will do my best
to do my duty to God and to The King,
to help other people
and to keep the Cub Scout Law.
The Cub Scout Promise for members who are Hindu
I promise that I will do my best
to follow my dharma and do my duty to The King,
to act with compassion towards all life
and to keep the Cub Scout Law.

Adult and youth members show their Scouts' Values within the seven Scout laws.
There are lots of activities you can do to teach everyone about the Scout Promise and what it means. You could run these activities as part of an Investiture or to remind everyone of the Scout Promise and Values throughout the year.
Making your Promise is a very special moment in your Scouts journey. It’s important that every member has the chance to think about their Promise, and chat through its meaning, before they make their Promise for the first time during a special ceremony we call an Investiture.

Renew your promise with your group and think about what the Scout promise means. You may want to renew your Promise at a wider event, such as on camp or at a District event.
Since 2016, Gilwell Park has been the home of the Promise Path, made up of sponsored bricks. More than a thousand engraved bricks now form part of the landscape and each one tells a special story.
