Recruiting trustees at universities
Ready to use email template for contacting universities to recruit new trustees
Quick links
Dear (insert name of contact if known) / To whom it may concern,
My name’s (insert name) and I’m (insert role) at Scouts, in (insert location). I’m hoping you can share our range of volunteering opportunities with your students. These include trusteeships and opportunities to work directly with young people in our leadership teams.
Scouts is where young people make new friends, have amazing adventures and learn new skills - all of which is supported by our amazing 150,000 volunteers. Surprised at that number? Well, something else that might surprise you, is that 80,000 of these volunteers are charity trustees.
We’re looking for volunteer trustees to help run our charity. It’s a great opportunity for any student, no matter what subject they’re studying. As trustees, they’ll gain experience that’ll help build their CVs, including:
- Influencing and negotiating
- Decision-making
- Risk management
- Getting involved in their local community
- Making friends, connections and networking
There’s no need for previous Scouts or trustee experience. As the biggest youth organisation in the UK, we’re particularly interested in helping young people have their voices heard, and the opportunity to influence the development of Scouts.
It’d be great if we could discuss how to promote our opportunities to students, and if possible, arrange for me to talk to anyone interested in volunteering. I’m available (insert two or three dates and times) to meet either in person or digitally.
Thank you in advance for your time and I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Yours sincerely,
(insert name)
