Considerations and advice on national honour nominations

The Scouts Good Service awards recognise outstanding contributions made by our volunteers but they could also be nominated for a national honour.

National honour nominations will require evidence of a nominee’s commitment and contribution to the Scouts as well as how this has had a wider impact on the community either through their work with the Scouts or from other activities.

If you're thinking about nominating someone for a national honour and want to discuss the process, the National Honours Subgroup would be happy to chat to you.

Across the UK, Lord Lieutenants and Deputy Lieutenants will be helpful in supporting national honours nominations locally. To find their contact details, search for your regional Lord Lieutenant in an internet search engine. Alternatively you can request support from the National Honours Subgroup.

It's recommended that County/Area/Regional Lead Volunteers and Chairs invest in forming a relationship with their Lord Lieutenant, as they play a significant role in the operation of the national honours system. Where a number of Counties cover a shared lieutenancy, the respective Lead Volunteers and Chairs should work together to devise an appropriate communication process which allows for effective liaison with the Lord Lieutenant.
