Introduction

Taking part in Scouts can provide opportunities for young people to develop a deeper understanding and confidence in their own beliefs and attitudes.

With support from the Muslim Scout Fellowship (MSF), one of our National Scout Active Support Units, we’ve shared some ideas of how young Muslim Scouts can reflect on their faith, when enjoying different types of Scout activities.

This includes ways to reflect on the teachings of the holy book of Islam (the Qur'an) and the words and teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (the Hadith).

You can also find lots of ideas in the MSF's Spiritual Development Guide.

Islam and Scouting

Muslims believe in one god (Allah), and that the prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was his last messenger. The Qur'an (the holy book of Islam) was revealed to the Prophet, as a guide to all humanity.

Our Scout Values and Islam have so much in common, such as caring and respecting others. For Muslims, their faith provides a framework for how they live their lives – it’s about putting their faith first, not trying to fit their faith around the rest of their life.

Internationally, there are over nine million Muslim Scouts - that's a third of the whole global movement!

Here in the UK, the Muslim community is the fastest growing demographic in UK Scouts.
