All-member programme update for November

Share

This is our all-member programme update for all Scouts sections for November 2024.

Running safe winter activities

When planning activities over the winter, make sure you consider the impact of colder temperatures and darker nights. The Activity finder is a great place to start when thinking about the safety considerations for each activity. We also have specific cold weather and winter safety guidance if you’re running a winter camp or activity outside. Incidents can typically occur during free time activities, so please remember to plan in advance, risk assess and factor in supervision.

Anti-Bullying Week is 11–15 November

Anti-Bullying Week encourages young people to celebrate everything that makes us unique. You can use our Anti-Bullying Guide to help you address bullying and take steps to reduce the chances of it happening in your Group or Section.

YouShape Award

Make your programme more youth-shaped with the YouShape Award. Find out more about what the YouShape Award looks like in practice for Squirrels, with tips for how to take it on, in our video.

Share your experience

Help us find out more about what it’s like running a Squirrel Drey. We’d love you to join us for a 90-minute online interactive session on 12 November at 7pm. The session will help us to better understand what is happening across Squirrels in the UK and for you to tell us what you need as volunteers, so we can create appropriate resources and activities to help.

What’s your favourite activity badge?

We're continuing to update our badges to make sure they’re the best they can be. We’d like young people to tell us what they think about our badges and what new badges we should create. Could you help us by asking young people in your Scout Section (with the help of their Leaders, parents or carers) to fill in this short survey? We’d love to hear from as many young people as possible, so please share this survey with Scout Sections far and wide.

New King's Scout Award (KSA) Logbook submission form

We’re changing the way completed KSA Logbooks are submitted to UK Headquarters for processing after the form has been approved locally. Instead of the relevant local approver submitting KSA Logbooks via email to UK Headquarters, they now need to complete the
KSA Logbook Submission Form. The HQ Team will then review each Logbook and aim to confirm the next steps within 10 working days of submission. If you’ve already sent Logbooks via email, you won’t need to be resubmit them. We’ll only accept ready for approval KSA Logbooks emailed to awards@scouts.org.uk until the end of 2024.

Updated Orange Card available from next month

Last year, we committed to updating the Young People First – Orange Card in line with the updates to the Yellow Card. The updated card will go live next month, allowing Young Leaders to report concerns directly to the HQ Safeguarding Team and to an adult volunteer who must then report to the HQ Safeguarding Team. There’ll be updated hard copies and a digital version of the card, as well as a poster to support your Young Leader training. These resources will be available from next month. In the meantime, speak among your District team to work out who’ll order the resources and share them with your Young Leaders.
