We'll meet again

08/08/2011

The 22nd World Scout Jamboree ended just how it began, with a downpour of rain and an outpouring of joy and friendship.

The 40,000 participants gathered in the round for the closing ceremony on Saturday night.

Royal pride

The King of Sweden, Carl XVI Gustaf addressed the assembled throng saying 'I am very proud to be a Scout today'. He then led everyone in a mock rocket launch blast before the fireworks display.

Japanese Scouts came on to stage to collect the Jamboree flag ahead of the next World Jamboree in 2015.

They paid tribute to the Scouts who lost their lives in the earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan earlier this year and thanked Scouts all over the world for their messages of friendship and support.

Spectacular scenes

A moment of solemnity followed as everyone stood to renew their promise in five different languages.

The evening drew to a close with a spectacular firework display, and a lightning storm. New friends huddled together to say goodbye and celebrate their experiences.

Emily from Greater London said 'What an incredible way to end a Jamboree. The ceremony may be over and the Jamboree may be too but the friendships and the memories will stay with me forever.'

The first UK units departed the Jamboree site at 1am to embark on Home Hospitality across Europe.

I visited the Jamboree last Thursday and the atmosphere was truly unbelievable. What a powerful message Scouting is sending to the World about living together in peace and harmony.

Why did all the jamboree videos feature mainly interviews with girls and ethnic minorities just like our monthly magazine. There s still a majority of boys in scouting which those at the top seem to have fogotton

Being a part of something so great and spectacular has made me truly grateful to be a part of something so amazing; the scouting association. The 22nd World Scout Jamboree.. is an experience which I will never stop talking about, it has given me so much to think about and I have experienced so many new things. The friendships that I have made within my unit and from units all over the world will be friendships that I continue to have throughout my life. Thank you once again to my unit leaders, the whole of the uk contingent team and the hosts sweden for putting on such an amazing Jamboree in Rinkaby, Sweden 2011. This time will never, ever be forgotten, by anyone! :) xxxxx
