A field of dreams

UK Scouts are getting into the thick of fun and activities at the World Scout Jamboree.
Team building collaboration and co-operation are the order of the day at Quest – one of the six programme zones at the Jamboree.
Through a range of activities Scouts are challenged to work together to solve a series of problems. When each problem is solved they are led to a new challenge.
In a scene reminiscent of the Crystal Maze television programme, Scouts undergo physical and intellectual challenges complete with mazes and cryptic puzzles.
New ideas and experiences
At the other end of the scale is Dream – a programme zone where relaxation is the name of the game.
The idea of the dream zone is for participants to journey backwards through life, culminating in their being reborn into new life with new ideas and using all their experiences from the Jamboree to make them a better person.
Scouts journey through the forest, whispering with just a lantern to guide their way. They are also challenged to take part in activities with blindfolds, ear plugs in and mobility restrictions.
The journey continues as Scouts have a chance to reflect on what their life might be like as an adult, reflecting on jobs, families what may be important to them.
Inspiring concept
The zone ends with giant building blocks and childhood toys and a chance to see the world through toddler’s eyes. As you leave the forest you enter an area covered by fairy lights to simulate being born again.
Frasier from Leicestershire said: ‘I really enjoyed creating my own person, the person I wanted to be on giant blackboards. It made you think, it was a really clever concept and quite inspiring to think about what people can and have achieved.’
