'Amazing sight' greets UK Units
28/07/2011
The entire UK Contingent has safely arrived at the 22nd World Scout Jamboree.
Units are now busily transforming the campsite into a home-from-home for the next ten days.
Scouts from Bedfordshire claimed the title as the first UK unit to set up camp, arriving just after 9am yesterday morning.
One Scout James summed up the thoughts of everyone saying: ‘I got off the coach and was stunned by how big the site was. There are tents and people from every corner of the earth everywhere. It’s an amazing sight.’
Hospitality
The warmth of the welcome from the Swedish hosts was an added bonus, as was the willingness of complete strangers to help pitch a tent. Many were just delighted that the waiting was finally over.
The Norfolk Unit were quick to set a high standard for food. Their Wednesday feast of Swedish meatballs was declared by Explorer Scout Tom to be ‘the best meal I’ve had since I left home.’
However the sight of the first burnt pan of the Jamboree suggested that not every patrol’s effort was of similar quality.
Excitement is now building ahead of tonight’s Opening Ceremony.

If you’re not going to be in Sweden, you can still experience the Jamboree on Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and Flickr.
