Danish delight for Jamboree Units

World Scout Jamboree - UK pre event (mp3)

Copenhagen has been awash with UK units gearing up for the experience of a lifetime.

The UK Contingent of adults and young people have been making the most of the pre-launch event; sightseeing, taking part in activities and having a big party before heading to Sweden and the 22nd World Scout Jamboree.

Party time

Powerboat rides, climbing, martial arts and more have been on the agenda as over 3,000 Scouts descended on the Danish capital.

This was rounded-off with a star-studded party where big names from Hollyoaks and T4 joined street dancers, circus performers and chart-topping bands for an unforgettable night.

Liam, from West Sussex, had special reason to celebrate as he was celebrating his birthday ‘This is the best and biggest party ever, the atmosphere is unbelievable, I can’t wait for the Jamboree now,’ he said.

Despite the late night, many units were up at 4am this morning to board their coaches, and cross the border to the Jamboree.

Volunteer preparation

Meanwhile, the adults who make up the International Service Team have been gathering at the site in Rinkaby over the last few days. Excitement is mounting for the 1,100 volunteers from the UK who will play a vital role in ensuring the event runs smoothly.

‘Nothing compares to the amazing atmosphere at a World Scout Jamboree,’ said Sarah from Buckinghamshire.

‘People from around the world come together to live, work and play. I can’t wait to meet my international patrol and find out what we'll be doing.’
