Pod Skipper applications are now open!

Beth Fyfe - Deputy UK Contingent Leader (Engagement)

We’re looking for members of the UK Contingent to step up and help make sure everyone makes most of their Moot.

We’re looking to select two Skippers for each of our regional Pods – one Participant and one International Service Team (IST) member. Skippers will support members of their pod by offering a friendly face, words of wisdom and a point of contact for the Contingent Leadership Team.

Who we’re looking for

We’re looking for current members of the UK Contingent who feel confident in their ability to support others. You should be a kind and approachable person, with experience of international Scouting and/or international travel.

We expect all of our Skippers to exemplify our Scouts and UK Contingent values.

You can...
  • Rise to the challenge

  • Take the lead on your adventure

  • Engage with others

You will...
  • Work hard and have fun

  • Be a role model for UK Scouts

  • Support those around you

You want...
  • To expand your horizons

  • To meet new people

  • To have the adventure of a lifetime

The role

In the lead up to the Moot itself, we want our Skippers to support their Pods by:

  • Encouraging social connections between Pod members, e.g. through the Moot Facebook pages, at pre-events, and any other local opportunities you can create or support

  • Making sure your Pod is aware of key messages from the Contingent Leadership Team, e.g. upcoming Moot Mondays, deadlines for payments.

  • Answering questions and concerns from your Pod that you feel able to, and passing on anything that requires the attention of the Contingent Leadership Team.

On the Moot, our Skippers will:

  • Be a friendly face for their Pod members on site

  • Making sure your Pod is up to date on any UK Contingent messages, like updates from the Contingent Leadership Team.

  • Triaging concerns and questions from Pod members that simple and low-level, and passing on anything that requires the attention of the Contingent Leadership Team.

As a Skipper, you will be expected to keep in touch with the Contingent Leadership Team throughout the Moot experience. This will include communication via email and phone, and occasional virtual meetings as needed.

How to apply

Members of the UK Contingent to the World Scout Moot can apply themselves to become a Pod Skipper using the simple form below.
