Cubs100 roundup of 2016’s events
Cubs100 is coming to and end, but what an incredible year it has been! We’re looking back at this year’s Cubs100 best bits and finding out how Scouts in the UK have celebrated 100 years of Cub Scouts.
Saturday 16 January – Cubs100 launches at ZSL London Zoo with a sleepover at the Bed Bugs experience.
January – March – Thanks events take place across the UK, recognising the people who have made the section a success over the years.
Saturday 6 February – 8,000 Cubs throw the Wildest Beach Party Ever at Blackpool Pleasure Beach – the first time in its 120 year history that it is closed to the public.
Wednesday 23 March – HM The Queen wishes Cub Scouts a Happy Birthday.
Saturday 16 April – 12,000 Cubs from across the UK attend private screenings of Disney’s The Jungle Book.
Saturday 30 April – Cubs100 Ambassador Steve Backshall flies to five events from Croydon to Manchester.
Sunday 29 May – Bear Gryll’s launches his ‘Bear in the Air’ helicopter tour from Cubjam at Gilwell Park.
May – September – Adventure camps take place across the UK, encouraging Cubs to try adventurous activities and spend time with friends away from home.
Saturday 24 September – Cubs100 takes over ZSL London Zoo, ZSL Whipsnade Zoo, Alton Towers Resort, Chessington World of Adventures Resort and Warwick Castle. 6,500 Cub Scouts received discounted tickets and exclusive goodie bags.
Tuesday 13 December – Cubs100 parliamentary event at Speaker’s House. MPs meet Cub Scouts from every region in the UK to learn about what Cub Scouting looks like today.
Wednesday 14 December – The Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton celebrates Cubs100 with Cubs in Norfolk.
Friday 16 December – Royal Mail frank millions of post with the Cubs100 logo commemorating the centenary. Meanwhile, thousands of Promise Parties take place across the country at 19:16.
