Be...the future

The Be... Initiative helped us to find out how young people thought we should deliver on the Vision 2018, especially our aim to be more youth-led.

It involved a dedicated microsite,, physical visits to existing youth forums, a survey specifically on community impact and finally a consolidating event with young people from across the UK.

You said, we listened

The Be... research was conducted with thousands of 12-25 year-olds and the findings from the initiative has directly help shape our Strategic Plan, Scouting for All (PDF), going forward.

Following the feedback we received, we now have plans to create a National Scout Youth Council so that there is a space for the views of young people locally to be discussed nationally. A UK Youth Commissioner, who will be on the same level as the Chief Commissioner, Chief Executive and Chair of the Trustee Board, will help lead the way in Scouting. We will also recruit young people to help us make even more of a social impact in our communities.

Social change

Feedback also led to plans for a Scout polling App so that we can quickly poll young people on their views of Scouting and contribute to social change. We also plan to develop partnerships with other charities including Stonewall, Scope, Mermaids and the Gender Trust.

We aim to deliver community, adventure and international events for Network members on a national level and we will create a test campaign, which, in partnership with young people, will develop and create messages that appeal to those not already involved in Scouting.
