Stars in the making

Bright Sparks

Three Scouts have been awarded the prize of featuring in the Bright Sparks Project, and will work on a music single that will support adult recruitment this winter.

Kayleigh Walters, 18, a young leader from 31st Sutton Coldfield Scouts was the first Bright Sparks to be announced and will sing the lead vocals on the track entitled ‘Let It Out’.  The song was specifically created for her by Bright Sparks judges Tony Lundon and Iain James, and producer Kevin McPherson.

Kayleigh did an acoustic cover and piano piece of Take That’s ‘Rule the World’ for her Bright Sparks audition, which really captured the attention of the judges. ‘It was a bit of a shock really, I didn't expect to win,’ said Kayleigh. ‘Excitement is the main feeling at the moment but it's hard to explain how I'm fully feeling.’

Scouting for talent

Emma, 17, of 38th Rossendale Scouts, was voted as the second winner of the competition, who impressed the judges with her creative filmmaking skills; she will direct the music video that will be released along with the first single from the album. Emma’s audition video, which was viewed over 25,000 times on YouTube in just over a month, features a cover of David Guetta’s hit, Titanium.

Last but not least, Alex, AKA DJ Lex, of Aquila Explorers, is the third winner who wowed the judges with his remixing skills and record-producing knowledge. Alex will remix ‘Let It Out’ for the dance and club music chart.

The Bright Sparks Project has been running since April and further winners will be announced on 1 September.

Judge and Bright Sparks Project founder, Tony Lundon took the Bright Sparks Live Lounge on the road and met tens of thousands of Scouts across the country at Fundays, Gilwell24, KIJ2013, Kernow 2013, Poacher 2013 (pictured) and NIJam 2013.
