Cub Scout receives bravery award
An inspirational Cub Scout from Norfolk has been recognised for his bravery.
Daniel, a Cub Scout from 1st Docking in Norfolk, has shown remarkable courage in the face of adversity and his Scouting spirit has earned him the Chief Scout’s Commendation for Meritorious Conduct.
Following a playground accident, Daniel, age 9, was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer that requires constant treatment. Despite his illness, Daniel continues to be an active and inspirational member of his Pack, recently completing his Athletics Badge.
Daniel’s mum, Trudy said: ‘We are all so very proud of his quiet determination to get on with it no matter how scary. He and I have spent a lot of time in hospital together and he always tries to find a positive in everything, no matter how sick he is feeling.’
Cub Scout Leader, Su Rix, also praised Daniel’s fighting spirit: ‘Daniel shows true grit in his determination and resolve in overcoming his difficulty.’
Though Daniel’s treatment prevents him from attending regular meetings, he is now looking to achieve his Book Reader, Chef and Naturalist Activity Badges.
