European Jamboree Coordinator
After a gap of nearly 15 years, since the UK hosted the last European Jamboree in 2005, the next European Jamboree event will take place in Poland in 2020. Building on the fantastic programme developed as part of their World Scout Jamboree bids the Scouts and Guides of Poland have created 11 days of activities, combining the chance to develop new skills, make new friends from across Europe and experience Poland’s beautiful countryside.
We have looked differently at how we will deliver the UK’s participation in this fantastic event, empowering local groups to take control of their experience and build an experience that works for them. We are also looking differently at how we coordinate and support the UK’s participation in a decentralized way. Based on its own island close to the city of Gdansk, the purpose built site is within walking distance of beautiful sandy beaches, pine forests and a short bus ride from the bustling city. For more information on this fantastic event visit ej2020.org
The UK European Jamboree Coordinator for the European Jamboree will liaise with HQ staff, the ZHP Jamboree Organisers, County Commissioners and Assistant County Commissioners (International) and volunteers involved as appropriate.
The Coordinator’s role is to ensure that counties are empowered to organise their own patrols/units to European Jamboree, primarily by communicating and cascading information, gathering expressions and confirmations of interest from counties, managing central communications etc.
The Coordinator will also liaise HQ staff to create a unified UK Contingent brand and with Scout Store to produce merchandise for attendees.
Terms of appointment
This appointment will be for the duration of the European Jamboree planning cycle, which features the event in July 2020, as well as planning activities beforehand and evaluation/wrap-up activities afterwards. This is a voluntary leadership role and as such is unremunerated, however, reasonable expenses in line with the Association’s Expenses Policy will be paid. It is important to note that this is a co-ordinator role rather than a UK Contingent Leader role and as such attendance at the European Jamboree itself is not required. The European Jamboree Coordinator will however be expected to attend the Jamboree Heads Of Contingents Meeting in August 2018 in Gdansk.
