NCS Team Leader

• Pastorally care for a team of up to 10 young people to complete the Scout led NCS proof of concept Programme
• Support all young people in the team, ensuring that you are inclusive of all participants and assisting in their personal development
• Oversee health and safety and behaviour management of the group at all times
• Work alongside other members of staff to ensure that all the young people in the team are engaged and fully participating in all activities
• Work collaboratively with the Assistant Wave Leader to effectively manage any challenging behaviour
• Report to the NCS Wave Leader and/or Assistant Wave Leader about the progress of the team and any difficulties or challenging behaviour regularly
• Empower each young person in the team to develop a range of new skills, including leadership, communication and organisation skills
• Facilitate and deliver curriculum sessions to the team in an engaging and inspiring way, tailoring them as necessary
• Deliver guided reflection sessions to ensure that each young person in your team is consistently reflecting upon their progress and development
• Take an active role through the final phase to design and deliver a Social Action Project and support your team and individuals to create a successful and meaningful project

• Good and demonstrable communication and interpersonal skills to enable successful influencing, listening and facilitation
• Good planning and organisational skills with the ability to manage and deliver key NCS and Scouts curriculum in a timely manner
• Ability to manage resources and time in an effective way

• Experience delivering programmes to young people (aged 16-17 desirable)
• Experience and/or knowledge of non-formal education or youth social action. Experience of either Scouting or the National Citizen Service is desirable

• A strong sense of accountability and empowerment, in a values based culture
• Commitment to young people; understanding of their needs and a passion for supporting them to be their best
• Self-aware, positive and approachable, enthusiastic and able to enthuse others
• Open, confident and collegiate with the ability and willingness to challenge constructively, and to receive challenge, and to work effectively with all delivery and programme staff
• Wants to do a good job every time and wants to do the right thing even when it’s not easy to do.

• Live in a geographical location that enables you to attend all parts of the required 12 day role.
• Able and willing to work evenings and extended hours during the residential part of the programme
• The post requires Team Leaders to be on site for the duration of the residential as a temporary live in position. The post will be in shared accommodation during the residential, provided as part of the package with no deductions to salary for food and board
• Available for the whole of the 12 day period in February 2020

Level 4 is required for this role.
