Youth United Foundation (YUF) is funding the project as part of their Social Inclusion Programme which supports uniformed youth organisations to grow and develop.

The YUF project is happening in 6 target areas chosen by the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG). These areas are

  • Birmingham
  • Bradford
  • Burnley
  • Greater Manchester
  • Knowsley (Merseyside)
  • London (Hackney, Harringay, Tower Hamlets, Redbridge, Newham only)

This includes The Scout Association, GirlGuiding UK, St John Ambulance, Boys’ Brigade, Girls’ Brigade, Sea Cadets, Army Cadet Force, Volunteer Police Cadets and RAF Air Cadets.

The project will:

- open 81-101 new Scouting sections in these areas

- recruit 365 more adult volunteers meaning

- allow 1707 young people to have access to Scouting

 

All new sections opening in these areas are eligible to be counted for the project and are also eligible for a YUF start up grant.

To register a new section with the project please complete the following online survey this will register the section the section with the project and The Scout Association and also gives you the opportunity to apply for your Development Grants Board (DGB) start up grant.

Once the section is registered as part of the project you will need to complete some very basic quarterly monitoring and this is also done in the form of a very easy to complete online survey.

These are due to be completed at end of;

  • July 2013,
  • Oct 2013,
  • January 2014,
  • April 2014,
  • June 2014

 

YUF start up grants

This is grant available to new sections opening up in Gold and Platinum areas in the YUF areas listed above. After the 1st December 2013 the maximum you can apply for is £3,500 anyone applying for a grant before that date please contact Pamela – pamela.tompsett@scouts.org.uk

The grant can be used to pay for

  • Games equipment
  • Craft equipment
  • Camping equipment
  • Resources
  • Uniform for both adults and young people
  • Annual membership fees
