Scouts Speak Up at party conferences
Now in their fourth year, Scouts Speak Up are interactive events for Explorers, Young Leaders, Network members and their leaders to meet with MPs and councillors from across the country, during the party conference season.
Last year’s events were attended by over 300 people, and were a great success to allow politicians to hear directly from young people the impact of their decisions.
This year we’re really keen to give more young people the opportunity to discuss the issues that matter to them with decision-makers. From public sector cuts to high-speed 2 to the wars overseas, Scout Speak Up offers young people the chance raise topical questions and get answers.

Testimonials from last year
‘As a young person it is really inspiring to know that a decision-maker wants to hear my opinion; I really enjoyed meeting the MPs, it gave me a chance to get straight to my point but in a really chilled atmosphere. This year I hope to bring up the issue of university places because I think that’s something that’s really going to affect me and my Explorer Unit.’
Explorer Scout Matt, East Lancashire
‘My local Scout Group asked me to attend and it was incredibly worthwhile. This is an excellent initiative and I was incredibly impressed by the enthusiasm of the young people here and the quality of the suggestions they had to make.’
Ruth Kelly, former Secretary of State for Transport
