News | Craig Turpie elected Chair of the World Scout Committee
UK Commissioner for Programme Craig Turpie has been elected as Chair of the World Scout Committee at the World Scout Conference in Azerbaijan.
It has been a rewarding time for our delegation at the 41st World Scout Conference in Azerbaijan with news that Craig Turpie, UK Commissioner for Programme, has been elected as Chair of the World Scout Committee for a period of three years.
During the past three years, Craig has contributed to the work of the World Scout Committee as Chairperson of the Strategy Monitoring Group and the Planning Team for the 2nd World Scout Education Congress, amongst various other tasks.
Craig's UK and international experiences – in the areas of youth programme, youth involvement, social impact and strategy development – have been mutually beneficial. In 2014 he was appointed UK Commissioner for Programme and has helped improve support for the 6-25 Programme and contributed successfully to the work of Team UK.
Craig is held in high regard in international Scouting. He was also a member of the European Scout Committee from 2004 to 2013, successfully serving as its Chairperson for six years.
Tim Kidd, UK Chief Commissioner commented from Azerbaijan: 'Craig’s knowledge and understanding of Scouting around the world, coupled with his experience as UK Commissioner for Programme, is a great asset for the Movement. I’m sure you will join me in congratulating Craig on his success and offering him our support.'
Following the election, Craig commented: 'I simply want to ensure that every young person, regardless of where they live in the world, can access and participate in quality Scouting. How we do that requires support for development and growth and I hope to use the experiences I’ve gained in The Scout Association for the benefit of the whole Movement.'
