Our Environment, Our Future

In January 2014 the Big Lottery Fund announced exciting plans to invest £30 million in 25-35 projects across the UK, each of which will support young people (aged 11-24) to improve their local environment.

The fund seeks to strategically invest in projects that have the potential to be scaled up and rolled out to mass-engage and empower young people to get more involved in their local environment. For more information on the Fund, see here.

The Big Lottery Fund is currently running an application process to appoint a Portfolio Lead, a partnership of organisations that will identify projects suitable for funding, manage them as a single coherent portfolio, and gather and use learning from them. The application deadline is 16 May 2014.

In response to this call, a number of third sector organisations have formed an initial consortium that comprises the Canal & River Trust, NCVO, NUS, RSPB, Scouts, VolunteerNow, VolunteerScotland and WCVA.

The consortium is seeking partners that can add value to our application in line with the objectives of the Fund. To express interest in joining our consortium, or to discuss further, please initially contact Jamie Agombar, Ethical and Environmental Manager at NUS.

If you have a project that you think is suitable to receive funding through the Fund, that is ripe for scaling up and rolling out, please register it through the Big Lottery Fund’s form.
