Scout Community Week underway

Scout Community Week has got off to a flying start with fantastic projects happening all over the UK. Over 160,000 Scouts and volunteers are busy putting £2.35 million worth of work into their local communities.

Sponsored by B&Q, Scout Community Week is our biggest fundraising and awareness event and a great opportunity for Scouts to make an impact.

Scouts in Hailsham and Heathfield District took on quite a challenge when they repainted The Long Man of Wilmington. The 235ft chalk carving in the South Downs National Park required over 80 Scouts to tackle it. B&Q supplied more than 30 litres of paint to give the historic landmark a fresh new coat.

Margaret Paren, chairman of the South Downs National Park Authority, said: "The Long Man of Wilmington is an iconic figure and we’re very grateful to our local Scouts for giving up their time to give him a facelift."

The Scouts also fundraised at their local B&Q store, raising vital funds for Scouting and making a contribution to local children’s hospice, Demelza.
