Politicians praise Scouts in Scotland

The Scottish Parliament has held a members' debate about the achievements of Scouting in Scotland.

Minister for Children and Young People, Aileen Campbell, praised the work of the Scouts: ‘Youth work organisations such as the Scouts are helping our young people to be the successful, confident, effective and responsible individuals that our nation needs.’

Creating success

5th Fife Scout Group Kirkcaldy was congratulated for winning the Black’s of Greenock National Camping Competition. Kirkcaldly SNP MSP David Torrance applauded the Group for winning the competition, which tested skills including leadership, teamwork, camp cooking and first aid.

Torrance told MSPs that Scotland had the first registered Scout Troop in the world, the 1st Glasgow, which was established in 1908. He discussed Scouting’s recent growth, the dedication of its volunteers, and how it will ‘continue to have a vital role in communities across Scotland.’
