Active8 - The 'Ideal Homes Show for Scouting'
On Sunday 6 March, hundreds of leaders and young people flocked through the doors of Active8 in Kent for a day packed full of information and surprises.
The event, with over 70 exhibitors on site, was held at the County Showground, Detling. Kent Scout sections and teams were particularly busy, showcasing everything that there is on offer to Scouts in the local area, and promoting County events.
The KIJ13 team had a high tech stand which attracted registered interest from over 3,000 potential campers, while the 2011 Jamboree contingent took the opportunity to do some fundraising and spread the word about Swedish culture.
Outside exhibitors were there too, representing tourist attractions and campsites, and doing brisk business selling Scouting paraphernalia from cutlery to clothing and tents.
Elsewhere B&Q’s ‘You can do it’ classes were on offer, showing Cubs and Scouts keen to complete their DIY badges how to make a mug tree and change a tap washer. There was also the chance to have a go at pottery painting and some simple crafts - so lots of new ideas.
2,000 cups of coffee
Seminars ran throughout the day covering a series of topics including ‘Turning 18’ and ‘Funding Opportunities’, and The Scout Information Centre and Unity Insurance were also on hand to answer questions from those in attendance.
Nearly 2,000 cups of tea and coffee were served by the refreshment team, and everyone went home with plenty of ideas to share in their sections, Groups and Districts.
Beccy Martin, County Projects Manager said: ‘"Excellent", "brilliant", "great" and "an Ideal Homes Show for Scouting" are just a few of the comments we’ve had. Thanks to everyone who helped make Active8 happen - a great day for Scouting in Kent.
