UK member appointed Vice Chairman of the World Scout Committee
It’s been an exciting time for our delegation at the World Scout Conference in Brazil, as the UK’s John May was appointed Vice Chairman of the World Scout Committee. The appointment will see him play a key role in shaping and delivering the future strategy for the World Organization of the Scout Movement.
Writing from Brazil today, UK Chief Commissioner Wayne Bulpitt said,
‘This is a great acknowledgment of John’s considerable talents and dedication to Scouting in the UK and far beyond, which was also recognised enthusiastically by the conference. I’m sure you will all join me in congratulating John on his success and offering him our full support.’
A global vision
The February/March issue of Scouting magazine will feature an interview with John, but when asked before his departure about how he would like to see Scouting move forward, he was keen to expand the global aspects of the programme.
‘I’d like to see us make more of our Movement’s international dimension. Every Scout should have the opportunity to get a feel for what it’s like to be part of our global family. Whether that’s Beaver Scouts discovering the games played by Beavers in Canada, or Network Members attending the World Scout Moot.’
The World Scout Conference in Curitiba, Brazil, runs until 14 January, and you can read more about the UK delegation’s experiences on Wayne’s blog.
