Growth & Development Officer (Newcastle)

We work and volunteer in a diverse range of communities and one of our aims is to ensure that Scouting is reflective of the communities which it serves. We have a vision and strategy to take Scouting forward to 2023 and the Regional Services Team within which you will be based, plays a vital role in achieving that vision by supporting the opening of new Scouting provisions as well as key leadership and management support for our volunteer managers.  

Local Scouting Newcastle has a current membership of over 1350 young people in both urban and rural settings and working with both volunteer and staff colleagues from across the County and District the projects aim is to open new sections and groups. This will enable more young people to access our activities as well as exploring other ways we can deliver Scouting to our local communities, opening Scouting in underrepresented communities and supporting growth in existing Scout Groups. This is a home-based post, working frequent evenings and weekend and successful applicants will be expected to live within or close to the area.

You will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to manage a diverse and changing workload. You will be enthusiastic and able to motivate and inspire others, enjoy challenge and responsibility and be able to be proactive and deliver on your work and projects. Past or present adult membership of Scouting or Guiding is an advantage together with an understanding of issues facing youth and community services. The job will involve working unsocial hours; you must be able and willing to travel, including spending occasional nights away from home.

Annual Salary: £26,961 pa 

Contracted hours of work: 35 hours/week (frequent evenings & weekends)

Tenure: 3 year fixed term contract (Funded by the City of Newcastle Scout District) 

Location: Homebased near Newcastle (regular travel involved)

Holiday Entitlement: 25 days per year plus bank holidays. This increases after two years service to 28 days. 

Additional Holiday: 3 extra days between Christmas & new year.

Probationary Period: This post is subject to a 6 month probationary period.

Notice Period: 1 month after probation.
